The latest scientific advancements in cell behavior and skin biology collide with the power of platinum—making the most agedefying beauty booster to date, La Prairie’s Platinum Rare Cellular Night Elixir.
Tiny trails of light streak across the pitch-black sky. The snowcats bring us high atop a mountain in Aspen, Colo., to watch the Geminid meteor shower, which, at its peak, produces 120 meteors per hour. The Little Nell’s astronomy expert points out various constellations and shooting stars as they pass. It is a rare and special night indeed.
The midnight stargazing expedition is in celebration of the launch of La Prairie’s Platinum Rare Cellular Night Elixir. La Prairie’s most brilliant minds join us for the trip—Dr. Daniel Stangl, director of innovation; and Elizabeth Lamont, vice president of marketing, Americas/ Oceania. The scientists explain that the new formula combines La Prairie’s Exclusive Cellular Complex with the Advanced Platinum Complex, making the most rejuvenating product to emerge from the La Prairie Laboratories. “We have learned that a successful rejuvenation therapy requires specic ‘environmental’ conditions for cells, such as nutrition and adequate respiration, detoxication and immunity,” says Stangl. “We aimed to create a unique formula capable of creating newborn skin by supporting cell renewal and regenerative processes in the skin overnight.”
To arrive at the advanced technology, the research and development team from La Prairie rst examined the concept of cellular rejuvenation. “By addressing the four vital functions of nutrition, respiration, detoxication and immunity, we were able to support cell renewal and the cutaneous regenerative process,” Stangl explains. La Prairie’s Cellular Complex supports this by providing needed nutrition to cells, including amino acid and sugar building blocks, as well as nucleotides for the synthesis of new DNA.
La Prairie’s top-secret Cellular Complex dates to the 1930s, when Dr. Paul Niehans established Clinique La Prairie at Clarens-Montreux in Switzerland, where he developed his revolutionary age-delaying, cellular therapy. Since the company’s founding in 1978, La Prairie’s age-defying, life-infusing science signature, the Exclusive Cellular Complex, has been at the heart of nearly every skincare product the brand has produced. And, as of the ’90s, the manufacturing process of the Cellular Complex has not been changed.
However, the introduction of platinum is newer for the beauty brand. “Reports about potent free-radical scavenging properties of colloidal platinum drew our attention to [its] potential use in skincare,” says Stangl. “We developed a specic platinum peptide demonstrating collagen-boosting properties together with enhanced peptide stability and bioavailability.”
However, much like the mysterious streaks across the sky during the meteor shower in Aspen, it is the eect that’s more enchanting than the science behind the phenomenon. After a few restful nights using the elixir, my skin’s texture and firmness is improved.
