From spicy curried cauliflower to a flaming 25-layer cake, these are the best things we ate throughout the month of October…
Curried cauliflower at Glutton(616 E. Carson Ave.). "I had the most amazing hot and spicy cauliflower appetizer that my entire group raved about. The flavor was absolutely delightful, and no one could believe they were fighting over the last savory pieces in the dish while telling family stories about being forced to eat the benign vegetable as a kid!" –Maureen Schafer, Publisher
Scottish grilled salmon at Honey Salt(1031 S. Rampart Blvd.). "A lighter option on the menu, Honey Salt’s Scottish salmon is served grilled over a bed of sautéed garlic spinach, roasted apples, and toasted pecans, then topped with a caramelized-shallot vinaigrette." –Halee Harczynski, Director of Event Marketing
Zucca allo zenzero at Lago(3600 S. Las Vegas Blvd.). "Offered during lunch and finished off with spicy croutons, a bowl of the butternut-squash soup at Lago is the perfect complement to a cold, rainy day in Vegas." –Irena Hall, Account Executive
Blue Ribbon-style fried chicken at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill(3708 S. Las Vegas Blvd.). "The first thing I crave from Blue Ribbon are the roast shishito peppers—the combination of the Maldon sea salt and semi-spicy pepper is addicting. The Blue Ribbon-style fried chicken with shichimi pepper and wasabi honey marries perfectly with the oxtail fried rice, but Taisetsu Junmai Ginjo sake will make your meal complete. You might leave the restaurant full, but you’ll definitely be 100% satisfied." –Jennifer Palmer, Distribution Relations Manager
Five-spice squid at Andrea’s(3131 S. Las Vegas Blvd.). "I don’t just like Andrea’s because of my obvious affinity for its name (actually named for Steve Wynn’s beautiful wife, whose giant bewitching eyes are the art behind the bar). It’s one of the sexiest rooms in town, and the five-spice squid is my go-to. All those sour, sweet, bitter, pungent, and salty flavors come together in chef Joseph Elevado’s spot-on seared squid, served over baby greens, sweet pepper, and pickled shallots in a tart lemon vinaigrette. It’s the perfect healthy counterpart to the flaming Mt. Fuji dessert—a mountainous cone of 25 layers of coffee-rum mousse and chocolate cake, coated in meringue and dramatically torched at your table." –Andrea Bennett, Editor-in-Chief
Short rib agnolotti at Scarpetta(3708 S. Las Vegas Blvd.). "I finally got around to trying Scott Conant’s famous short rib agnolotti, and I now understand what it’s like to genuinely love a pasta dish. This one sees bite-size pockets of the restaurant’s house-made agnolotti filled with tender braised short rib, then finished off simply with brown butter, horseradish, and a layer of toasted bread crumbs for added crunch." –Tess Eyrich, Associate Editor
Linguini pomodoro at Salute Trattoria (11011 W. Charleston Blvd.). "I turned 33 this month, and since I’m half Italian, it seemed appropriate to celebrate at a new Italian restaurant in town. We started with the antipasto misto, or chef’s selection of appetizers, and crispy arancini, then came the linguini pomodoro—the fresh, homemade pasta was phenomenal—and my entrée, the veal Milanese saltimbocca. Our evening ended with the caprese pie: rich dark chocolate and toasted almonds with gelato. Best birthday dinner ever."–Jessica Zivkovitch, Account Director
