In a city not really known for romance, like all things in Vegas, all you need is a little luck—and a glass of wine—to make you swoon. For first dates or date nights, Wally's Wine & Spirits is a sure bet.
Can you actually fall in love in Las Vegas? Hard to say. Sin City has long been known as a place for a quick fling, where “what happens here stays here.” But don’t be fooled. Despite its naughty side, Las Vegas is one of the most romantic cities the world. So explore the thrill of love by visiting a bar where couples can get lost in the atmosphere while getting to know each other better over a stiff drink.
The Las Vegas Strip seems to have everything, but what if you want to bring a bottle of wine back to your hotel room with someone special? While top restaurants famously have stellar wine lists, tourists are usually left to scour hotel gift shops and convenience stores for retail options. Do you really want to shop for cabernet at Walgreens?
That’s one of the reasons why Wally’s Wine & Spirits is a welcome addition to Resorts World Las Vegas, the first all-new Strip hotel built from the ground up in more than a decade. Located in the District dining and retail plaza, Wally’s is a shopping, drinking and dining hybrid, rivaled only by Eataly a couple of miles down the boulevard. The concept was founded in Los Angeles as a modest liquor store but grew in stature and style, eventually expanding to multiple locations and becoming a favorite of the SoCal celebrity crowd.
So it only makes sense the first Wally’s outside the Golden State would feel right at home in Las Vegas. The collection of wines is fantastic, totalling well over 8,000 labels with varietals and global regions well represented. The team, led by expertly trained sommeliers, has curated an intriguing lineup that avoids overly familiar standbys—although if you just want to leave with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, that’s fine too. The retail prices on wine bottles are surprisingly fair (by Strip standards or otherwise). Hard spirits, however, come with a more noticeable markup.
Looking to shop and split? No worries, Wally’s will find the right bottle and wrap it beautifully in green paper, whether it’s intended as a gift or not. Yet the experience is best enjoyed when sitting in the main dining room, sampling a few glasses with the guidance of a knowledgeable somm. Burgundy can run anywhere between $15 and $1,200 a glass, a disparity that reflects the depth of selection.
Anything you order will be appreciated over imported meats and cheese, a flatbread with shaved black truffles or grilled octopus. Wally’s could have easily coasted on its food menu but overachieves on both ingredients and presentation, adding up to an experience that will impress day or night.
