BEST FOOT FORWARD
When it comes to personal style, sneaker savant and social media maven Genevieve Chanelle leans to the bright side.
Genevieve Chanelle has been conceptualizing things all her life. As a child, the Bay Area native recalls intentionally dressing herself in bright colors. “I remember rocking flaming red flare pants paired with an oversize tee with the California sunset airbrushed on it. To me, standing out with colors was my thing,” says Chanelle. The only thing missing from her colorful ensembles at the time was the perfect pair of sneakers. A black pair of Chuck Taylors would mark the beginning of forever for Chanelle’s shoe obsession turned career. “I needed every pair of every color to go with the vibrant outfits I had,” she adds.
As she grew older, her appreciation for sneakers expanded and she developed an appreciation for classics like Nike, Jordan and Adidas. “To me, different sneakers were like pieces of wearable artwork,” says Chanelle. She longed for having a broad collection of shoes that encompassed all styles, designs and colors. “I felt like I needed all of them. I started a collection on a minimum wage budget as a teenager. Every time I got a new pair of kicks, it would go straight to feet, then straight to social media.” For the then 28-year-old, social media changed everything including propelling her toward her career as a consultant for the footwear brands she adored. She notes, “Creating content with sneakers and being one of the first of a handful of women to do it gained the attention of the brands I adored so much.” Her passion had finally met its purpose, and in 2018 Chanelle packed her things for Vegas, where she would lead The_ONES, a platform for the young female sneakerhead. She instantly fell in love with her new home—from the lavish food to 24-hour nail salons and unlimited wine. “Vegas is perfect for me,” she says. “But what I love most about this growing city is that it is so empowering. Living in Las Vegas made way to let me be me and find myself in ways I couldn’t have living anywhere else.”

LASH IN LINE
For salon owner Molly O’Bryant, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Molly O’Bryant’s journey to lashdom dates back to 2009 in Toronto, Canada. She and her husband—they’re college sweethearts—moved to the city; however, Molly couldn’t legally work as she wasn’t issued a work permit at the time. Out of boredom, she learned the ins and outs of lashes and became a certified artist. She says, “I had no idea that taking that class would turn into a career for me. Lashing in Toronto in 2009 was still very new, but a handful of people knew about it. It was hard trying to convince potential clients to come in and try the service so that I could practice and improve my skills. Not many understood what it was.” She immediately fell in love with the industry, and upon moving to Vegas opened her business A Touch of Lash (atouchoflash.com) in 2010, which would eventually be one of the city’s most prized beauty havens. Fast forward to today and O’Bryant is a full-on, serial entrepreneur. “Just in the last year, I’ve been blessed to be a part of so many exciting opportunities. While being a Top 3 finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year was a huge honor and becoming a mother is always on top of that list as well, I’d have to say that I am most proud of being invited to speak on three panels at Lashcon in L.A. this past October,” she says. Her passion for educating aspiring and experienced lash technicians translates directly through her business. ATOL offers professional training, high-quality products and mentorship. She notes, “I truly enjoy the education behind our industry as I think it is vital to ensuring that the lash industry remains safe for the public and creates financial freedom for the boss babes in it.” Citing Vegas as one of the most fun and diverse cities that she has ever lived in, O’Bryant says, “This city has something for everyone. You could stay at home all weekend or have an exciting staycation partying on the Strip—it’s really whatever you make of it! You can be, and transform yourself into, whatever you want to become because Las Vegas would never judge you.”
