As another summer winds down in Sin City, get the most out of the season’s last few weeks with these only-in-Vegas activities and experiences.
1. Pay Your Respects to the Divas
Britney Spears has already returned to Planet Hollywood’s Axis Theater for the remainder of her 2015 shows, while Celine Dion resumes her award-winning residency at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum on August 27. Now the only question is: Who are you going to see first?
You’ll find us by the pool at Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Arizona.
3. Get a Crash Course in Modern Architecture
The Springs Preserve’s photographic exhibition “Modernism at Risk,” on view through September 6, explores the roots of modern architecture, as well as the threats faced by some of the style’s most endangered structures worldwide.
4. Go Crazy for Classic Cars
Few visitors to the Strip know that one of the world’s largest classic car showrooms is tucked inside The Linq Hotel & Casino. Looking to buy? Most of the cars on display, which range from a 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale to a 2009 Dodge Viper, are up for grabs.
5. Go Behind the Scenes of a High-Flying Theatrical Production
Debuted this summer, the Kà Theatre Spectacular takes fans of MGM Grand’s resident Cirque show behind the curtain for an inside look at its history, inspiration, and technological features associated with the $165-million production. The free open houses take place every Tuesday at 11 and 11:30 a.m. in MGM’s Kà Theatre.
6. Give Your Wardrobe a Makeover
We recommend starting at Wynn Las Vegas, where a brand-new Prada outpost and the Wynn Collection, a 7,000-square-foot boutique dedicated to luxury ready-to-wear apparel, accessories, and cosmetics—including Tom Ford’s entire beauty line—recently opened their doors.
7. Find Art off the Beaten Path
Visual candy is just waiting to be discovered at UNLV’s Barrick Museum, where three exhibitions—including “Style Moderne,” a showing of 20th-century art glass from the collection of Ruth and Mel Wolzinger—are currently on view, as well as inside Clark County’s Government Center and Winchester Cultural Center galleries.
8. Get Hoppy at a Beer Festival
Held on the beach at Mandalay Bay from August 28-30, the annual Beer & Barrel Project is a celebration of craft beers, barrel-aged spirits, and the food pairings that make both of them better.
9. Laugh Until Your Stomach Hurts
Breakout star Kevin Hart returns to the Cosmopolitan from September 5-6 for the second annual HartBeat Weekend, which this year includes two standup comedy performances and a pool party hosted by Drake.
Our favorite sky-high hangouts offer cold drinks, tasty bites, and 360-degree panoramas of Sin City in all its Day-Glo glory.
11. Sip on a Tropical Tiki Drink
Sure, Vegas’ most legendary tiki bar inarguably remains the retro-fabulous Frankie’s, but Chinatown’s new Golden Tiki just may give the longtime locals’ hangout a run for its money (and when you’re ready for a new scene, head down the road to the recently reopened Sand Dollar Lounge for live blues and a Moscow mule).
12. Meet Some of Boxing’s Up-and-Coming Superstars
Originally popularized by Caesars Palace in the 1960s, outdoor boxing has been a Vegas staple for half a century, but it’ll settle into its new home at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center when Trevor Bryan goes up against Derric Rossy on August 28. Can’t make it to the match? A public press conference (August 26 at 1 p.m.) and weigh-in (August 27 at 5 p.m.) at the Fremont Street Experience will precede the festivities.
Still on the calendar for the rest of the season are The Dark Knight Rises (August 27) and Zoolander (August 30) at Container Park, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (August 29) and Cinderella (September 5) at The District at Green Valley Ranch, and Rango (September 7) and Kung Fu Panda (September 14) at the Cosmopolitan’s Boulevard Pool.
14. Relax and Rejuvenate
Looking to undo the harsh effects of summer? You’re in luck, because some of our favorite places to unwind on the Strip have designed summer-specific treatments that target seasonal ailments like extreme dryness and sun damage. At Bathhouse Spa inside Delano Las Vegas, spa goers can indulge in a Coconut Rehydration Facial to lock in moisture (available through August 31), while Sahra Spa & Hammam at the Cosmopolitan is offering an Après Soleil Body Wrap to soothe skin after sun exposure (available through September 30).
