At the Winter One Drop Land Event on Dec. 11, the One Drop Foundation presented WaterStart Channels for Water Innovation and the Southern Nevada Water Authority Youth Conservation Council each with a $10,000 grant.
Since 2013, Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté’s foundation has donated $1.5 million to like-minded Las Vegas organizations to raise awareness within the local community about local and global water issues.
“This would not be possible without the collaboration of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, with whom the One Drop Foundation organizes some of the most impactful fundraising events,” said One Drop Foundation board of directors member Jerry Nadal. Thanks to the common artistic DNA of the two organizations and to the support of the Las Vegas community, the One Drop Foundation is able to transform lives in developing countries and also locally in Nevada.”
The grants funds efforts by nonprofits protecting our most precious resource on the planet. WaterStart, an organization of global leaders scaling up new solutions to water challenges, expanded its work by founding Channels for Water for Innovation in Las Vegas, which promotes water innovation among various industries in order to broaden the pool of available technologies.
At the Southern Nevada Water Authority YCC, the immersive community service program champions the next generation to tackle water sustainability. Helmed by the Springs Preserve education Department, the YCC uplifts local high schoolers in critical water sustainability issues on a local, regional and global level. In addition to learning challenges facing Southern Nevada and the Colorado River Basin, they examine design solutions necessary to take on such challenges and identify opportunities to connect with the public on it.
Winter One Drop Land unfolded at The Mansion at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.Featuring a special performance by Cirque du Soleil of their recently reopened show KÀ, guests witnessed the epic story of twins who embark on an odyssey to fulfill their destiny together. The event also had a silent auction, a live auction, an exclusive pre-show cocktail soirée and a festive after-party enlivened by a night of dancing to music from the Raiders band.
