In the sea of conservative suits that make up Las Vegas’ army of nightlife VIP hosts, managers and directors, Anthony Olheiser and his pocket squares easily stand out. “The highlight of my day is getting ready for work,” he says. “It’s all about having fun. For me, it’s like the first day of school every single morning.” Olheiser, who oversees Studio 54, Wet Republic, Tabú and Centrifuge as MGM Grand’s director of nightlife, is known for his sometimes outrageous touches.
“I’ve been wearing pocket squares since I was in high school in Napa Valley,” says the 32-year-old. “I also have ascots, bow ties and scarves, all of which I’ll wear with either jeans or a suit. I have a pretty wild personality, and my clothes reflect that.” While Olheiser knows how to have a good time with his look, don’t think he doesn’t take some parts of his fashion very seriously. “My suits are custom, and my tailor and I put together different stitching and details just for me,” he says. “Having a tailor who knows who I am is key. I love playing with styles, patterns, designs and fabrics. I’m confident, so I’m able to pull off the unpredictable.”
He’s so into the details that he hopes to one day have his own line. (In the meantime, he says he’ll shop anywhere but names Nordstrom Rack, Barneys New York and Zara as favorites for finding quality goods.) “Ever since I was a young kid, I’ve wanted to create a clothing line just for men,” he says. “There are so many options out there for women, but there aren’t for guys. I think that’s why men all dress the same.”
In the past, he’s tried to help some of his closest guy friends dress with more flair but has since given up. “My friends find it more entertaining to watch me than to join me,” he says. “So I’m on my own.”
Olheiser on Style
MY PERSONAL STYLE: Unpredictable yet confident, and somewhat artistic. My style is a constant topic of conversation with the people who know me best, but I don’t take myself too seriously. I think that’s why I can pull off things that most guys can’t.
MY FAVORITE ACCESSORIES: Pocket squares. A carefully thought-out square can pull everything together. Plus, I feel naked without one. The brands aren’t as important as finding the right patterns and fabrics.
FAVORITE COMPLIMENT I’VE EVERRECEIVED ON MY STYLE: A gentleman once told me I was his inspiration for dressing.
WHERE I BUY MY SUITS: Custom—Cari Campbell dresses me.
I WISH MORE MEN WOULD WEAR: Guys should dress more chic. A lot of men do not dress up to differentiate themselves.
MY FAVORITE PAIR OF SHOES: Custom Dunks
MY STYLE-SETTERS: David Beckham, Johnny Depp and Tom Ford
THE LOOK I LIKE MOST ON WOMEN: Sexy sophistication
COLOGNE: Acqua Di Gio and Yves Saint Laurent
DAY LOOK VS. NIGHT LOOK: It’s all about the layering. Adjusting or removing layers can totally transform an outfit throughout the day into night.
MY HOME: Ultramodern high-rise with clean, square lines
