Gavin DeGraw opener Christian Burghardt talks about being a newcomer on the music scene.
Christian Burghardt is a rising star in the music industry.
Singer/songwriter Christian Burghardt has been busy making a name for himself in the music industry. He’s signed to acclaimed producer Dr. Luke’s label Kemosabe Records, and he’s touring with Gavin DeGraw. On June 14, their tour arrived at Las Vegas' Beach at the Mandalay Bay, and Burghardt stopped to chat with us about his first single and his initial impression of Las Vegas.
Your first single, “Safe Place to Land,” was just released. What are you hoping for now?
CHRISTIAN BURGHARDT: I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder. I don’t want to blow up and be gone. I’m hoping that the single does well, but I also hope that people dig in past the single and get into the album tracks and their deeper messages.
What is songwriting like now that you have a team of managers, producers, and songwriters helping you?
CB: Early on I didn’t write with anybody else. I held everything really close to my chest. I didn’t want anybody’s criticism or input. I started to learn that there are so many talented people out there, and to not utilize their gifts as well is just foolish. How could I pass up that opportunity to make my music better? As I opened my mind to that, it has only increased my art and made me a better writer. Now I relish it. It’s so cool to work with other people.
Who do you look to for inspiration?
CB: A good place to start would be Gavin DeGraw. A lot of his first hits were coming out when I was in high school, and they were definitely an influence of mine. Now I get to share a stage and listen to him live. It’s crazy.
What are you most excited about in Las Vegas?
CB: Definitely the show, but I have one free day. I have some family here, and all they want to do is hang out by the pool. I’d also like to check out the city. I plan on coming back, and hopefully staying a week or so.
