Superlative designs and masterly craftsmanship are the hallmarks of Misahara jewelry. The brand’s recent partnership with Gemfields has produced a collaborative collection that is as brilliant as it is socially and environmentally conscious. Lead designer, Lepa Galeb-Roskopp, shares with us her insights on these newest pieces in the Time Collection and Misahara’s upcoming trunk show at Neiman Marcus's Precious Jewelry Department at the Fashion Show Mall (Friday, December 8 - Sunday, December 10) that will help support the life changing work done by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Misahara is celebrating an exciting new collaboration by making wishes come true.
How did the Misahara x Gemfields collaboration come about? Lepa Galeb-Roskopp: I have a place in South Africa, so I’ve been aware of the incredible emeralds that Gemfields is mining in Zambia for some time. My CEO, Janice Winter, has a history with Gemfields, so it made sense to sit down to discuss ways to work together. Gemfields’ mission of social and environmental conscientiousness fits with Misahara, which made the whole thing click. Plus, the emeralds are like candy!
What is it about Gemfields’ stones that inspired your re-imagination of the Time Collection? LGR: I had just finished conceptualizing and putting together our Time Collection, which is based on Mother Earth and preservation of her resources, when this collaboration came about. The interesting thing about working with Gemfields’ stones is that I found a message and story in each of them that I was able to incorporate into the pieces.
What is the significance of the Time Collection and how do these pieces continue that story? LGR: The Time Collection represents taking time to consider the environment and the richness of other cultures. As a mother and citizen of the world it’s a simple and symbolic message that created a very personal and meaningful collection.
How did Misahara begin working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation? LGR: I’ve been working with the True Cause Foundation, so supporting an organization that helps to create a sense of global community and aids children is paramount to me. My team got involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation knowing that. The incredible work that they do makes Make-A-Wish a natural partner for this event.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are in Las Vegas? LGR: There are three things: eating, shopping and seeing shows. Vegas is a place that offers uniqueness and excellence. Unlike the advertising campaign, what happens to me in Vegas I take into the world.
