After months of commuting between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Mark and Jonnie Houston of Houston Hospitality are ready to settle down on the Strip.
“We’re moving out [to Las Vegas], so it’s a big thing for us to embrace the city in an organic way,” Mark Houston explains. “I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t love it and feel connected to it.” The twins and nightlife impresarios—best known for L.A.’s Black Rabbit Rose and Dirty Laundry—will debut their newest concept, On the Record, at Park MGM on New Year’s Eve weekend. The multiroom venue promises plenty to discover, including the speak-easy-like Record Parlor with framed album covers adorning the walls, and a fully operational vinyl store (with some records curated by the brothers’ celebrity pals) as the venue’s entrance. “Record shops used to be on every corner. It just felt natural to create something we love,” Jonnie Houston says, adding that On the Record will pay tribute to multiple music genres—a rarity for Vegas’ EDM-infused nightlife scene—and bring together those who love everything from Electric Light Orchestra to Bon Iver. “In every project we’ve done, I can tell you which song or record inspired it,” Mark says. “This is the first concept where we’ve been listening to so much different music. It’s what makes it more challenging—it’s a collaboration of all our babies.”
