As the world creeps closer to the haunting date of Halloween, United Kingdom based artist Bolli Blas gives art lovers an early glance at the Reaper. The painter is successfully using her finished canvases as a portal into a mini universe. Where fans can discover her creations that she refers to as Bollis. Bollis are a race of big-eye-oil-based adaptations of public figures. They are meant to reflect a more vibrant and satirical outlook of what society may deem to be sinister or overrated.
Published Saturday October 9 2021 on Instagram, Bolli Blas (@bolliblas) shared a finished painting to her feed titled, 'The Last Waltz'. The 60 x 80cm oil painting featured what appeared to be the Grim Reaper dancing with a young lady to her death while holding its scythe. Majority of her completed canvases show her Bolli creations as bright coloured people. This is to express the humanity that the public did not see in the original person. The Last Waltz differed from all her prior paintings because of the darker gothic tones highlighted in the Reapers body structure. Blas stated that she decided to use that painting as inspiration for a solo piece of the Reaper. The new individual 60 x 80cm painting has yet to be named and will be exhibited at Context Gallery in Forli, Italy, as part of the Fiera Contemporanea 2021 event December 10 - 12.
Bolli thrived in the world of business & numbers before she decided to create her own world of Utopia through paint. During 2012, She graduated from University of Aberdeen with a master’s degree in accountancy and Economics. Though she was very knowledgeable in business, art is what peaked her interest as a main profession. The artist states her journey of taking art serious began when she was denied of being exhibited at local art gallery Ingleby in Edinburgh, Scotland during 2018. Since then, Bolli Blas has been exhibited worldwide in art galleries such as: Van Der Plas, New York, New York; Gaudi, Madrid, Spain; SKT Spaces, London; and more. She has also been recognized in news by Mint, Flaunt Magazine, Influencive, International Business Times UK, in addition to other popular publications.
The big puppy dog eyes in her creations continue to be Bolli Blas's main focus in her art. She considers eyes to be the windows to a person's true essence, so she emphasizes that feature on her Bollis. Blas's art is widely misinterpreted by those that do not follow her on social media. Her message behind each dried canvas is captioned on her Facebook & Instagram with descriptions of what seems to be her hopes and dreams for a better society. Through her distorted interpretations of the society lie a world of Bollis waiting to be discovered.
