The conference began with words of appreciation from the House of Blues and the Live Nation teams to Santana for his many years of performance. Together they comissioned artist Justin Lepper to create a sculpture as a representation of their gratitude to Santana’s decade of commitment to Las Vegas entertainment.

The handmade sculpture was a replica of Santana’s guitar. Once the skeleton of the replica was created, Lepper pounded an aluminum exterior over it and fixed it to a base made of native woods from Mexico. Ironwood was chosen as it is one of the strongest woods that lasts the longest when compared to many other types, a direct nod to Santana’s stamina in his music career.

After receiving his award and gift Santana spoke on the topics of resilience and diligence. “[Many] of my colleagues are hitting the wall…they become stuck in [a] misery ditch with sadness…They say [to me] ‘we try to figure out how you've been doing this since ‘67 and you don’t succumb to the victim mentality.’”

His response was rooted in reclaiming power over your life. He stressed that, “It’s important to spend more time with gratitude, thankfulness and appreciation. That is the sum that overrides and heals a victim mentality…It’s important to be thankful that you have balance, equilibrium and here’s the main one, confidence.”

Santana speaks of his audiences, “I have to be very present with them and say ‘thank you for spending the money on the airplane and the hotels and coming to see us.’”

With an impressive ten Grammys, 3 Latin Grammys, his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and many other accomplishments, Santana has achieved so much utilizing the advice shared at the press conference. To add to this list, he and his band have committed to additional show dates for An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hit Live at House of Blues presented by SiriusXM.

With such a clear sense of purpose, Santana expresses, “Music for me is to give people a deep sense of self-worth…Music is unity and harmony. It is about healing. You have to heal yourself everyday from the negative voices in the head.”
