How does one of the most esteemed car brands level up in the world of luxury? They make an NFT, of course.
This fall, Bentley Motors will launch an exclusive, sustainable NFT. The move will officially launch the brand into the Web3 marketplace in September when its unique artwork will be unveiled. Named Genesis NFT, the coveted 208 pieces will deliver special rewards and offerings to the few lucky owners.
With Bentley’s recent pledge to become end-to-end carbon neutral by 2030, it was essential that Bentley launch their first NFT sustainably. Since Polygon has pledged a carbon-negative stance, it was a no-brainer for the two brands to collaborate. The Genesis NFTs, minted by Polygon, are carbon-neutral and will leave collectors feeling guilt-free about their purchase.
“Polygon is excited to expand our partnerships in the automobile industry, by working with the most prestigious brand in its sector. Polygon will provide the sustainable, low-fee infrastructure Bentley requires for its foray into Web3. By embracing this novel tech, Bentley secures its position in the next iteration of the internet," said Polygon Studios CEO Ryan Wyatt.
Contrasting the Web3 space's relative newness, the Genesis NFT pays homage to the rich history of Bentley motors. For instance, the number 208, or the amount of pieces available, is relevant to Bentley. The number was the top speed of their fastest Grand Tourer and the total production of the iconic R-Type Continental in 1952, which inspired the modern Bentley design.

“Bentley customers are living their lives online, purchasing luxury goods with digital currency, and establishing businesses in the Metaverse. We’ve always engaged our customers where they explore their passions, and today that means being present in digital marketplaces and offering NFT assets. We’ve seen how NFTs have raised the profiles of both art and artists, and we believe the same can happen in the luxury automotive space” said Alain Favey, member of the board for Sales and marketing.
These NFT drops are the essential first steps Bentley needed to take into the Web3 world. In the future, Bentley plans to explore NFCs (non-fungible chips), online gaming, blockchain technology, and Metaverse applications.
All proceeds from the NFT and future endeavors will go towards the brand’s philanthropic efforts and supporting students passionate about engineering, design and manufacturing. Bentley also hopes to use its proceeds to support organizations dedicated to increasing sustainability, especially when it comes to transportation.
