Las Vegas jeweler Anna Swonetz of Annabee is all the buzz around town.
AnnaBee’s Anna Swonetz in her studio
A trip to the Yucatán Peninsula to assist her mother on a photo shoot put British-born Anna Swonetz not only in the path of her future husband, photographer Brad Swonetz, but also reawakened some latent creative desires. After marrying, the couple settled in Southern California, where she launched a line of handmade necklaces and bracelets personalized with names, initials, and dates using metal stamps, since she couldn’t find personalized jewelry that she loved. Then Vegas came calling, and the two settled here, where she now runs her AnnaBee designs from a Downtown studio space. AnnaBee offers Swonetz’s popular custom nameplates, as well as a range of minimalist ready-to-wear pieces made with top-quality metals and gemstones, cheeky T-shirts and baby gear, and metallic tattoos. This spring, be on the lookout for her updated take on the locket, designed in the brand’s signature hexagon shape. “I’m really sentimental,” she says, “so I like to take old pieces, like the locket or the Irish claddagh, that have meaning for me and reinvent them in new ways.” Yet while she often takes inspiration from the past, she’s quick to note that being part of Downtown’s growing arts community has thoroughly invigorated her work. “It’s inspiring to be around so many other people who are doing the same thing creatively and trying to juggle it all,” she adds. “We all help each other.”
