Florals as a spring trend are far from revolutionary, but they seem to be on steroids this season, ubiquitous and decidedly lavish in their treatments. Admittedly it’s a rich source to mine: Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy looked to Van Gogh’s sunflowers as an accent for their ’50s-inspired dresses, while at the other end of the artistic spectrum, Jason Wu opted for a petal print he co-designed with graffiti artist Kaws. It’s in spring accessories, however, where the fabulous texture of florals is truly allowed to blossom, from the gorgeous beading on a Prada clutch to the sweet garden of diminutive daisies that adorn Peter Pilotto’s strappy sandal to the ultra-romantic pink floral platform wedge from Alexander McQueen, which makes the wearer look like she stepped in a bed of roses. But even the most cursory glance at Jimmy Choo’s latest reveals it to be a fitting flower for Las Vegas: Mira, a platform sandal from the label’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection that pairs lush blossoms in yellow and green with a stone leopard print, a cunning mix that amps up the notice-me factor. Mira, after all, means “look” in Spanish; so if you’re seeking an entrance-maker ideal for walking into Hyde or XS, this just may be the ideal choice to adorn your stems.
