Clear heels used to get a bad rap—“stripper shoes” would be the thought that leaped to mind upon encountering any footwear crafted in transparent PVC or vinyl. But no longer: This season Lucite and other see-through treatments have walked a wide variety of runways, from ladylike with brogue accents at Oscar de la Renta to dance-hall divine at Marc Jacobs or a bit of dominatrix flair (with spikes, of course) from Christian Louboutin. No matter what your speed, there’s an undeniable sex appeal about the look, as your feet are both covered and completely on display. Perhaps the strippers—that is to say, exotic dancers—had the right idea all along.
