The popularity of smartwatches has swiss makers responding with timepieces that offer both time honored craftsmanship and tech in a luxury package.
Clockwise from top left:
Breitling’s Exospace B55 ($8,900) is the brand’s first connective chronograph, performing watch adjustments (setting the time, alarms, and time zones) from the wearer’s phone; conversely, the watch reports incoming calls, texts, and calendar alerts, in addition to communicating chronograph information, including flight timing (true to Breitling’s aviation DNA) to the phone. The light titanium case houses an exclusive Caliber B55 movement with both analog and digital displays tailor-made for pilots. Horologio, Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian and Palazzo, 702-733-0016
The BOLD Motion smart watch by Movado ($695) offers Bluetooth connectivity engineered by HP and is Android and iOS compatible. The watch offers phone, appointment, email, text, and social media alerts that are housed within a 44mm stainless case. Ca’d’Oro Jewelers, Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian and Palazzo, 702-696-0080
The Connected Watch with Intel Inside by TAG Heuer ($1,500) blends the brand’s 150-year heritage and the sporty style of its Carrera collection with technical know-how. Three interactive chronograph counters, which display information via Intel and Google technologies, join a traditional watch face and hands, offering the best of both traditional and nouveau timepiece experiences. What’s more? The innovative watch’s 46mm case is created from grade-2 titanium for lightweight strength and shock resistance. From Frederique Constant, this Swiss Horological Smartwatch ($950) is capable of bio-directional communication with iPhone and Android apps via a MotionX engine. The watch’s connectivity allows the wearer to track activity and sleep patterns and links to the Cloud for backup and restoring ease. It’s all sealed in a classically designed case that keeps the technological power under wraps. Horologio, Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian and Palazzo, 702-733-0016
Smartwatches captured the imagination of global consumers in a big way in 2015 as Apple released its much-anticipated iWatch. Despite mixed reviews, the iWatch earned its place in the zeitgeist as the most talked-about product of the year and spurred a demand for tech-driven timepieces across the marketplace. Some traditional Swiss brands have responded by pairing their master watchmakers with leaders in the world of technology to develop models that deliver the latest high-tech functions while staying true to traditional form. 2016 kicks off with several new pieces to satisfy lovers of high-tech and haute horology. These watches provide connectivity to the wearer’s devices and offer everything from the ability to record sleep cycles to monitoring heart rates to bringing calendar reminders to the wrist to helping a pilot navigate an airplane, all while being housed in an elegant case that gives none of this away in the boardroom.
